Although the Hukbalahap rebellion had started about a decade ago in 1942 to fight off Imperialist Japan, today the rebellions stands for something else. Since Japan fled, the United States has taken over the Filipino government, giving land to powerful businessmen and putting the same politicians who worked with Japan in positions of power. The rebellion today stands to resist against US intervention in Filipino affairs.

In the 1950s, resistance against the United States in the Philippines meant a death sentence. In Pampanga, Luzon, men were found dead in the rainforest. Their bodies were cold and (text-colour:lime)[drained completely of blood.] Along the sides of their necks? (text-colour:lime)[Two puncture wounds].
But they weren't just hungry vampires attacking forest-goers, they were (text-colour:lime)[CIA men masquerading as myth]. Led by Agent General Edward G. Lansdale, they sent from the United States to take down Communist Hukbalahap rebels. They used curses in the sky, spray painted watching eyes on civilian homes, and spread rumors of(text-colour:lime)[ //Aswang//], a kind of Filipino vampire, being spotted in the mountains where the Hukbalahap set up camp. Eventually, attacking Hukbalahap men on patrol one by one, and (text-colour:lime)[dressing the assault as an Aswang attack].
They devastated not just the rebels, but their neighbors and families as well, until many withdrew support for the cause (text-colour:lime)[out of fear]. This culminated in an American victory against overseas Communism, but left Filipinos (text-colour:lime)[terrified and exhausted in their own home].
